Joseph was the son of John & Ann Parrott, Quakers from Birmingham, England. Upon arriving in USA ca 1828, Joseph settled in Philadelphia, where he declared intent to naturalize on Oct 02, 1834. His son by his first wife moved to Illinois and then Iowa, and established a family there. Joseph's children by his second and third wives stayed in Philadelphia and surroundings. While the Midwest and East Coast branches thrived for a while before the male line died out; however, one branch has descendants in Minnesota, the Dakotas, and Washington.
